A valuable contribution to the history of an industry which once provided a living for many Hebridean whalers. Originally published in 2014 by Capercailzie Publications, this illustrated 36-pages booklet records the experiences of former Gaelic-speaking whalers from the Hebrides and West Highlands, mainly in the South Atlantic whaling industry in the 1950s and early 1960s. It contains the transcripts (in Gaelic and English) of interviews carried out by the author in 2012 and 2013 with Jock Murray, Malcolm Ferguson, John Macdonald, Norman Macdonald, and Roderick Morrison (Lewis), Angus Maclean (South Uist), Alec Maclean (Fort William), and John MacInnes (Harris). It includes 12 (mainly colour) photos and a version in Gaelic and English of the ‘South Georgia Whaler’s Song’.
