Purchase of e-books from the Islands Book Trust

Copyright - When you purchase an e-book from Islands Book Trust (IBT) we grant the purchaser and their immediate family the right to read the book. You may create electronic copies of the book for backup, but you may not sell or share the eBook. It is your responsibility to keep the file safe to prevent unauthorised copying.
File Format - eBooks will normally be provided in both .pdf (Portable Document format) and epub (Electronic Publication) to suit different reader preferences but please check the product description to be sure. You will need software on your device to read the book. There are many free programs as well as paid options for both formats that run on PC, Apple and Android devices. The “best” software is very much a personal choice so we can't really make a recommendation but if you look in the app store on your device you will find a wide selection of suitable programs and many of the free programs are quite good.
File Protection - We do not use DRM (digital rights management) software as we know it can interfere with legitimate uses of eBooks you have purchased. (For example when a user changes their computer, phone, e-mail, etc.). eBook files will be watermarked (both visibly and invisibly) to protect our Copyright with your order number, name and e-mail address. Any attempt to remove or alter these markings will be interpreted as an illegal attempt to circumvent our copyright. We may take legal action against such a purchaser to protect our rights and claim damages including for lost sales and legal costs.
No Refunds - In accordance with our terms and conditions we do not offer refunds on e-book purchases. This is because you cannot “return” the product since copies are automatically made in the process of downloading the files. We have no control over the deletion of these files. This is the ‘legal’ position. However if you are unhappy with your purchase, please reach out to us at sales@islandsbooktrust.org
