North Atlantic & Arctic Neighbours: Building Sustainable Futures for Island Communities

In partnership with Nora the Islands Book Trust are organising a conference from 1st to 3rd July 2025. The agenda for the 3 day event is:

Day 1 - Tuesday 1st July

09:30 Registration, Introduction and Tour of Lewis Castle

13:00 Session 1 - Regional Resilience - Demographic and Economic Trends

15:00 Session 2 - Forging the Future: Strengthening Traditional Roots and Embracing Modern Innovation

17:30 Civic Reception followed by Dinner and entertainment

Day 2 - Wednesday 2nd July

09:00 Session 3 - Empowering the Next Generation: Innovation and Opportunities

10:30 Session 4 - Building Bridges: Youth, Identity, and Intergenerational Cooperation in the Youth engagement and democracy

13:00 Session 5 - Securing Resilience and Prosperity for Island Communities

15:00 Session 6 - Charting the Course: Governance and Economic Sustainability in North Atlantic Communities

19:00 Dinner

Day 3- Thursday 3rd July

09:30 - 17:30 - Coach Tour of the Isle of Lewis including discussion of Community Land Ownership with Galson Estate, Visit to Ness Historical Society for discussion of Crofting, the challenges facing Gaelic and other minority languages and museum tour. Visit to Callanish standing stones. Gaelic Musical Ceilidh

Book Your Place

You can book your place for Day 1 & 2 (£82) and/or Day 3 (£55). This price includes lunch each day and dinner on days 1 and 2. Please use EventBrite to book your place. 

Special offer for local residents and students

IBT is offering limited spaces for individual sessions on the 1st and 2nd July. Pricing:
     •    Per session: £7.50 (students £4)
     •    Full day (all sessions): £15 (students £7.50)
This option includes access to the specified sessions only. Meals and social events are not included. Apply to conference@islandsbooktrust.org specifying which sessions you would like to attend. Applications will be approved based on venue capacity.
